The quality dip in winter is real. Fewer sellers, thinner tables, everyone wanting to get home before the weather turns. And the bounce back in June is equally real. Went three Sundays in a row just to check, and each one had more sellers and better stuff than the last.
If you're new to car boot sales near you, or just haven't been since last summer, here's what actually helps once the season's properly underway.
Get there early. The best time to arrive at a car boot sale is before the official start time, not after it. Sellers are still unloading, which means you're seeing things before anyone else has picked through them. The bargains go in the first half hour, not the last.
Bring cash, and bring change. Small notes and a decent amount of coins. Most sellers can't break a twenty at 7am, and you don't want to lose a good find over not having the right money.
Walk the whole field before you buy anything. It's tempting to grab the first good thing you see, but the best pitches aren't always near the entrance. Do one full loop, then go back for what you actually want.
Check the weather and go anyway. A slightly overcast morning often means a better car boot, not a worse one. Sellers who show up in doubtful weather tend to be the ones who actually want to sell, not just clear out a garage on a whim.
None of this is complicated. It's mostly about showing up early and paying attention to the tables that look less curated, because those are usually the ones nobody else has bothered to look through properly yet.
